Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG), the leading Canadian horse racing operator, which has been part of the country's racing industry since 1881, has signed a lucrative deal with the British GBI Racing to see UK and Irish racing broadcast in the local market.

GBI Racing holds the exclusive rights to 60 UK racehorses and 26 Irish tracks, and the deal will see many events from these tracks broadcast via WEG's Horse Player Interactive TV channel (HPitv) to over 135,000 Canadian homes.

The Senior Manager of Wagering Operations for WEG, Peter Spoar said about the plans for Woodbine Entertainment to broadcast UK racing: "We're excited about this partnership with GBI Racing. Interest in British and Irish racing is high in Canada and we wanted to give the country's horse racing fans the opportunity to watch and wager on some of the finest racing in the world."

"We expect an enthusiastic response from our customers," added Spoar.

GBI Racing Signed a Similar Deal with Danske Spil

The deal with Woodbine Entertainment comes right on the heels of a similar deal signed between GBI Racing and the top Danish gambling group, Danske Spil.

Chairman of GBI Racing, Richard Brooke, commented on the new contracts: "We are pleased to announce two very welcome additions to the ever-growing GBI Racing portfolio."

"North American racing is among the best in the world, so British and Irish racing is a natural fit alongside Canada's racing schedule," he said. "Woodbine Entertainment Group is an excellent partner and will bring our racing to an enthusiastic audience."
