It's hard to believe that 42 years ago the very first World Series of Poker (WSOP) was played in Las Vegas, Nevada, an event that only attracted six players, including living Texas Hold'em legend, Doyle Brunson.

Although that tournament was no bigger than a regular home table game, it served to spawn the world's biggest, most prestigious and most lucrative land poker event, which today attracts poker players from across the globe.

2012 WSOP Prize Pool is a Cool $192 Million

As such, there is great anticipation for the 43rd running of this event - the 2012 WSOP - which is expected to attract as many of 75,000 professional and amateur players who will vie for the tournament's total prize pool of a cool $192 million, including many players from Canada.

Scheduled to start on May 27, WSOP entrants will descend on the legendary Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino where they will fill 480 poker tables. The 2012 WSOP will run until, when the winner of the featured No-Limit Hold'em Main Event will be crowned and awarded a priceless WSOP bracelet along with a $9 million payday.

Because the World Series of Poker has become such an enormous event which is broadcast all over the world, it has become a big betting event in its own right, as betting fans attempt to pick out and back the players who they think will triumph in the respective 61 events of the 2012 WSOP.

On this score, popular Canadian-friendly online betting and gaming site Bodog has posted the latest 2012 WSOP odds and betting lines, from outrights to prop bets. While there are still a few months to go before the start of this epic poker event, betting fans are already laying their 2012 WSOP bets.
