Just when it seemed like the $50-million Canada Lotto Max jackpot had been put under a spell to prevent it from being won, lo and behold it was eventually won and actually split down the middle by two lucky ticket holders.

The draw that finally broke weeks of Lotto Max rollovers (which saw the main jackpot reach its ceiling of $50-million and yielded 55 x $1m Maxmillions jackpots) took place on Friday, June 25, and came as a huge relief to the nation.

For weeks Lotto Max fever held Canada firmly in its grip, resulting in long queues at lottery outlets and even reports that non-lottery fans were succumbing by buying tickets for a shot at the biggest lottery prize pool in Canada's history.

Come Saturday morning, when the lottery dust had settled, reports began to circulate that the $50-million Lotto Max jackpot was split between a ticket holder based in Saskatchewan and the other in Newfoundland and Labrador.

As for the Maxmillions jackpot winners, there were reportedly 55 winning tickets for $1-million dollar jackpots, which means the Canada Lotto Max draw may hold the record for creating the most instant millionaires, although that is unconfirmed.

So with the Lotto Max won, Canadians could get back to their lives and put their $50-million champagne wishes and caviar dreams on hold. Or so they thought, but now almost three weeks later, the Lotto Max jackpot is climbing once more.

By the time the draw takes place this Friday (July 9), the Lotto Max jackpot is expected to be an estimated $43-million. And so it begins again. The five regional lotteries of Canada are joined together through the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation.
