Somewhere out there, somebody is walking around with a lottery ticket worth $50 million, and they may not even know it!

The Western Canada Lottery Corp. has appealed to Edmontonians, or visitors to the Alberta capital who purchased a ticket prior to Christmas last year, to check their tickets.

The unclaimed Lotto Max ticket has just one winner and the lucky numbers are 2, 13, 18, 24, 27, 37 and 43.

The lottery corporation said that the ticket was bought for the December 20th draw and is urging everyone to check out their winter coats, sock drawers, fridge doors or purses to see if they possibly overlooked the draw date.

According to the lottery spokesperson Andrea Marantz, it is not an unusual thing for lottery players to forget to check their tickets, especially over busy holiday periods such as Christmas.

Lottery Winner May Know

It may just be that the lottery winner is well aware of his or her win, and for whatever reason, has chosen not to come forward yet.

The winner has until December 20th, 2014 to claim the ticket, and may be getting things in order before doing so.

One well known case of someone doing just that was a woman in Alberta who became an instant lottery millionaire but opted to continue caring for her premature baby without any outside distractions until the child was out of the woods.

On the other hand, the Lotto Max $50 million winner may NOT be aware of the amazing windfall, and could go down in history as the holder of the largest unclaimed Canadian lottery prize.

The dubious honor is currently held by the $14.9 million Lotto 649 ticket that went unclaimed in 2006, and was also bought in Alberta.

$30m Lotto Max Win this Friday

In the meantime, players who are sure they aren't winners of the pre-Christmas $50 million lottery draw can take comfort in the fact that they have a chance to win $30 million this Friday.

Because the jackpot from the June 27th draw was carried over, there is a $30 million prize up for grabs this weekend in the July 4th draw.

Lotto Max is considered Canada's biggest lottery game and for just $5, players receive three seven-number selections. The player selects one set of numbers and the ticket terminal selects another two.

Lotto Max jackpots begin at $10 million and can grown to $50 million!

When the jackpot reaches $50 million, additional MaxMillions draw occur with prizes of $1 million each.
