Brass and Gold Wins B.C. Cup Classic
There was much excitement ahead of the B.C. Cup Day horseracing event that took place at the Hastings Park Racecourse in Vancouver, British Columbia. This event is one of the biggest horseracing events for this Vancouver racetrack. The B.C. Cup Day includes a series of six races for various classes of thoroughbreds. The B.C. Cup Day first took place in 1995, and has just taken place for the 19th time. The race day attracted the projected crowd of about 10,000.
Brass and Gold Wins $75K Race
The Hastings Racecourse got the largest crowd of the season for the B.C. Cup Day. There was much excitement throughout the day, but the victory by Scott Williams in the Redekop B.C. Cup Classic was most certainly the highlight. With Williams riding Brass and Gold, he won the Redekop B.C. Cup Classic $75,000 feature race. The Redekop B.C. Cup Classic race is a race that features horses of three-years-old and older.
Brass and Gold has been trained by Barb Heads, and was bred in British Columbia for owners Russell and Lois Bennett. Brass and Gold finished the 1 1/8 mile Redekop B.C. Cup Classic race with a time of 1:49.40. The horse that took second place was The Gov, with Wilo Kat in third place.
When asked for his comments on the race, Scott Williams said: "I pressed the go button and he did the rest."
Barb Heads was particularly happy, and commented: "Scott did everything that I told him not to do? It was a great ride."
Other B.C. Cup Wins
Tempered Steel won the $50,000 Dogwood race for three-year-old fillies. Tempered Steel's jockey, Mario Gutirrez saw the huge crowd standing as one after he won the race on Tempered Steel. Gutirrez has a large number of fans, and became an international star when he won the Preakness Stakes and the Kentucky Derby when he rode the horse, I'll Have Another.
Antonio Reyes rode Dashing Daisy to win the $50,000 Distaff for fillies and mares. Dashing Daisy's won the race by a neck. The $50,000 Stellar's Jay race for three-year-old colts and geldings was won by Go for Guiness with jockey Amadeo Perez. The $50,000 Debutante sprint for two-year-old fillies was won by Architecture, who was ridden by Enrique Gonzalez. There was yet another surprise win when Andallthatitmeans won the $50,000 Nursery for two-year-old colds and geldings.
