Of the many NFL wagers types available these days such as point spread bets, game totals and money line bets, prop bets (short for proposition bets) are becoming increasingly popular as they cover so many angles of the sport, from players and teams to just about everything in between. Plus, with so many online sportsbooks in operation, the sky is the limit in terms of the wide choice of props available. NFL prop bets are essentially bets that are not based on the outcome of a particular game or season, but on aspects or factors connected to a particular game, team or season. For example, while a traditional game total bet is dependent on the final score of a given game, a prop bet for that same game could be which of the two team's starting quarterbacks will score the most touchdowns, player A or player B. Super Bowl Prop BetsA common NFL prop bet is the infamous Super Bowl coin toss or flip, where you can bet on whether the coin will come up heads or tails. Usually depicted as: Heads -105 and Tails -105 beneath it, the -105 means that you must wager $105 in order to win $100. If the Super Bowl coin toss prop is too basic for you, perhaps you'd rather bet on the longest field goal made during the Big Game (over/under). There are even bets that have nothing to do with the season, players or teams which are called novelty props. Two examples of these with regards to Super Bowl XLVII are how long it will take someone to sing the national anthem, and whether someone in the half time show will have a 'wardrobe malfunction'. NFL Team and Player PropsBut perhaps more traditional NFL team props are more your speed. Some popular team prop bets include regular season win totals for all 32 NFL franchises (over/under), whether a team will make the playoffs (yes or no), and the total number of field goals each team will make (over/under) in a given game. Similarly, there is no limit to the number of player prop bets available such as which QB will lead the NFL in passing yards, which RB will lead the NFL in rushing yards, which WR will lead the NFL in receiving yards, who will be named NFL MVP, who will be named NFL offensive rookie of the year, who will be named NFL defensive rookie of the year and many more. |
